Essie Jain @ Cafe Pergolesi - 2007.06.30

The team of Cameraphonic was incredibly fortunate to have the pleasure of spending a few hours with Essie and her guitarist, Patrick in Santa Cruz. With some time to spare before her scheduled performance at Café Pergolesi, we all relaxed over a meal and enjoyed the mellow and lighthearted conversation that flowed around the table. Learning more about Essie, we were delighted to find out about her history both on a personal and musical level and she seemed equally eager to find out more about our lives. Friendly and approachable, Essie is as pleasant as her music is soulful, and this only heightened our excitement to hear her performance on this cool summer evening.
After a filling supper (that’s dinner in British English), we headed towards the café, anticipating a delightful live performance. The coffeehouse setting of this venue combined with the natural lighting of the sun streaming in through the windows allowed us to capture the elegance and honesty of Essie as she sang. Her set was simple and sweet, and Essie was certainly able to provide the most perfect form of entertainment one could wish for on a mid-summer night’s eve.
Here are the recordings brought to you exclusively by Cameraphonic. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
