Bodies Of Water Take Away Show : Recap
This was the second Take Away Show Nate and I had worked on together. We had just gotten up early from a really late show the night before at Bottom of the Hill and had to drive down to Los Angeles to catch Bodies Of Water for their CD release show.
It was hot, the drive was long, but we made it there just in time to take a much needed bathroom break and setup to record the show. Their CD release show was at a park in the middle of downtown LA which brought a mixed crowd of street people and fans. It was really something to hear them play amongst the sky scrapers under the night sky…
We’d actually met up with them a few days after taping their release show to record the Take Aways. We had driven down to San Diego to help a friend of mine with press coverage for Comicon. As what seemed to turn into the norm for these shoots, we were an hour or so late trying to battle LA traffic in the middle of the afternoon after driving back up from San Diego. Luckily they were understanding and we met them off Olivera St. in a very Latin influenced part of town to do the first take.
This second video was actually the first take we did with the band that day. It was the second time Nate and I had used his boom, which was connected to his video camera directly, and that proved to be its own problem. Imagine me with an 8ft boom trying to stay near the band and Nate, not knock over any merchandise, and with only 17ft of slack to move around. I was walking backwards down that market alleyway and trying to stay out of shot and out of Nate’s way which didn’t always work out that way… Now imagine trying to do that in the summer heat. Not fun!
Surprisingly, I think for a first attempt these videos turned out really well. After working on quite a few of these by now I like the rough edges on these first couple takes we did.
