Bumbershoot: Day 2 Review
Our second day at Bumbershoot wasn’t quite as packed as the first, but still was pretty busy. Some definite highlights were shooting Art Brut, Andrew Bird, and Devendra Banhart. Again the KEXP Music Lounge was great to catch acts earlier in the day which we might have missed otherwise.
Our first show for the day was Menomena at the KEXP Music Lounge at 1:15pm. They put on another great set and if you get a chance to catch these guys I highly recommend it.
Next up on the Sound Transit Stage we caught The Watson Twins at the Sound Transit Stage. They played quite a few new songs from their upcoming 2008 release.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club played earlier in the day on the Samsung Main Stage, which we didn’t have photo access to so it was a real treat to catch them playing later in the day at the KEXP Music Lounge. This show was the first KEXP show to fill up out of all 17 shows they put on that weekend at the Music Lounge. They played a great set to a packed house.

The Apples In Stereo were the next act we caught. I hadn’t heard much from this band in some time, but they still drew out a large crowd and were as energetic as ever on stage.

Ian Ball, from the band Gomez, was next up on the Starbucks Stage playing with a full band. I was unfamiliar with his music, but recognized his name from being in Gomez. He and his band played a nice set comprised of his solo material.

We caught Art Brut on the Sound Transit Stage on the recommendation of a few of the other photographers in the press room. Adjectives such as “amazing” came up a few times so we figured “Why not?!”. We were certainly not led astray! The group hit the stage and just jumped into their pop-punk infused songs and I had a hard time trying to decide whether I wanted to take photos of them or just watch the band from the side stage. The singer was all over the front of the stage racing back and forth yelling out his lyrics. A definite highlight of the evening.
Andrew Bird headlined the Starbucks Stage that night to a packed crowd. This was my first time catching him live and I was blown away. A solid backing band and great arrangements by this artist made for a wonderful show to shoot from the pit.
In our minds Devendra Banhart closed the show that night… not Fergie on the mainstage.. booo. He played with his backing band (now called the Bonerz) and was as energetic as ever. He had so much hair and a hat on his head which made shooting his face difficult, but I know one person who ended up getting a nice shot of him smiling…
Now for some of my own photos…

We will be showcasing a few of the KEXP Music Lounge shows on here as soon as we finish editing some clips… so watch for that soon!
