Two Gallants @ Crocodile Cafe - 2007.09.19

The affable San Francisco two piece headlined the Crocodile Wednesday (9/19) night, and were welcomed to the stage by throngs of eager fans- eclectic, yet excited all the same. Seattle, being one of the hodgepodge music epicenters of the US will definitely make for this kind of an audience at a concert.

Openers Blitzen Trapper and Songs for Moms certainly did justice in introducing Two Gallants, as a steady stream of people entered, only to be frisked/checked by the venues always overenthusiastic security.
Two Gallants sound, per se, is difficult to classify, but the (dare I be cheesy) “magical” quality to their live show was entirely awe inspiring. Tyson Vogel drums with such ferocity; it almost seems as if he were attempting to put on his incendiary drumsticks on the skins of his drums. Despite the intense percussion, however, the gentle and uplifting guitar accompaniments (supplied by Adam Stephens) totally complements the abrasive percussion and overall makes for one kickass live show. The performance was definitely one of the best I’ve seen a long while.Living in Seattle, I’ve come across a lot of live music- lots good, lots bad. Two Gallants were definitely one of the “greats” I’ve seen in my slowly increasing years of show going. Their shy, yet totally enigmatic manner definitely won the crowd over, as they did me, and provided for one of the best (and fullest) shows the Crocodile has seen in a while.
